Take Note of New Federal Regulations

A special note for those with 80 Gallon electric water heaters. There is a lot of confusion out there because of the new Federal regulations. The fact is an 80 gallon electric water heater is still available. Yes, they cost more than they did but it is available.

Due to the new Federal regulations, all tanked water heaters are wider and taller than those built before 2015. Hence, if your water heater has very little room around it, the new one may not fit in the same space. It would be far better to schedule an appointment to look at your water heater before it becomes an emergency and we can discuss and plan alternatives.

Getting it Right

Other things you may want to consider when replacing your water heater. Install a pan and Flood Stop emergency shut off valve. While we have your old water heater out of the way this is a great time to install a flood pan and Flood Safe valve. The Flood Safe is a special valve that activates if your water heater has a leak. The Flood Safe will automatically shut off the incoming water and greatly reduce or eliminate any flood damage. There is also an audible alarm to let you know you have a leak.

Choose the water heater that’s best for you. There are primarily 2 types of water heaters tanked and tankless. Within the tanked heaters there is the traditional type which can run on natural gas, propane, or electric and there is a Hybrid water heater. A hybrid water heater is a combination of an electric water heater combined with a heat pump. The heat pump uses the warmth of the air in your house to assist the water heater in making hot water.

Thinking About Going Tankless?

Tankless water heaters are the ultimate in efficiency and volume of water. A tankless water heater heats the water as you need it and can give you endless hot water. In addition they are a great space saving because they mount to the wall and are about the size of a suitcase. The tankless versions require either natural gas or propane. If you have a large family and you are tired of taking cold showers- this is the way to go.
